The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program allows students the option to explore more than one area of study.
The career opportunities and possibilities are endless for BIS students who have studied not only one major, but two. BIS
students are able to learn the importance of integrating both concentrations into what they want to do after graduation.
That integration, and combination of two similar, or different concentrations is what makes the BIS student more unique and
in many ways, more experienced than the average student.
I have known since I was a little girl that I always wanted to be a performer, so when I started college, it only seemed natural
that I would study the one thing I knew I loved to do. I truly enjoyed singing, dancing, acting, and most of all-being on
a stage in front of an audience and entertaining them. And then it dawned on me…what will I do with a theatre major?
A theatre major does not offer me a job. I cannot get acting gigs or win auditions just because I have a theatre major.
And that’s when I began taking other classes and started to dabble in other disciplines. Communication was a course
I took and something just clicked in my head when I began learning about communication. I understand communication. It interests
me, genuinely, and I want to learn more about it. I want to improve my communication skills, and learn how to incorporate
the knowledge I aquire about communication from my classes into my daily life. So, here I was with a dilemma. Should I study
theatre, something I truly enjoy but do not know if I have the passion to pursue it aggressively the rest of my life. Or
should I study communication? A more concrete major that interests me and may also provide me a better chance for a solid
occupation after I graduate? The idea of picking one major that would guide me to a specific career was quite overwhelming.
It was at this time that I found out about the BIS major, and realized I could combine my two areas of interest-theatre and
communication into one major-Bachelor Interdisciplinary Studies!
