For as long as I can remember, I have always loved performing. I spent years in various performing groups in Tucson,
and I could never get enough of the stage! I love singing, acting, dancing, and musical theatre. When it came time for me
to enter college, I knew that I didn't want to give up my biggest passion. As I began taking more and more theatre classes,
I started to realize that theatre was so much more than just acting. Yes, we watch television, movies, plays, dance shows,
and musical theatre performances because they enrich our lives. However, theatre is also used for many purposes besides just
entertainment. After studying theatre at A.S.U., I learned so much more about the many other aspects of theatre- from the
history of theatre to the technical production side of theatre. My appreciation and love of acting has increased as I have
gained more knowledge and experience in this field.
Communication was something I fell into once I entered college.
I took a few communication classes and quickly realized that I was very interested in studying communication further. Both
theatre and communication are both concentration that are very reflective of my personality because I am an expressive, outgoing,
communicative individual who not only loves to be on stage, but loves to converse and interact with others on a constant basis.
I have always been an extremely social person but as I continued to study communication at school, I began to realize just
how vital communication is to our daily lives. Communication came so naturally to me. I understood the concepts and furthermore,
I found them incredibly interesting.
The best part about studying theatre and communication is that they have both
helped me become stronger in the other discipline. I can apply things I learn in my communication classes when I am trying
to communicate, or connect with an audience, in my theatre classes. Conversely, I can utilize knowledge I have gained from
my theatre classes, like annunciation and the importance of facial expressions, and apply those skills in my communication
classes. The strengths I have aquired from theatre and communication will allow me to have a more well-rounded,
all-encompassing understanding of both disciplines.
